What’s Brewing

The 4th of July.
Holidays have never meant much to me. Not because I’m stubborn, although I do have my moments. A lot of holidays just don’t have the best memories attached to them.
And fireworks? Absolutely not.
I am terrified of them. I’ve had some pretty bad experiences over the years. One wedding in particular comes to mind, and I’ll tell you about that one someday if you ask me in person. It’s funny now, but let’s just say I respect fireworks the same way I respect deep water, the dark, and things that go bump in the night.
At a distance.
This past 4th was our first one with our river family, and it was exactly what I needed.
We bought a used camper last year to keep at the river, and even though it’s only about six miles from the house, I refuse to drive back home. That camper is our vacation getaway, and I will not be taking questions at this time.
The weekend was a blast.
Sleeping in.Karaoke.Campfires.Bugs.Water.So much food we still had leftovers on Sunday.
And the kind of laughing that makes your stomach hurt.
It’s truly a family environment. The kind where people remember what you talked about last time. They ask how things turned out. They notice when you show up. They genuinely care about each other.
I didn’t even open the laptop.
I did check my messages, because apparently I am relaxed, not fully healed.
But it reminded me how much we all need places where we can just be people. Not business owners. Not problem solvers. Not the one everybody needs something from.
Just people.
And, of course, my marketing brain still found a lesson in it.
People remember how you make them feel. They remember when you listen. They remember when you follow up. They remember when you show up consistently, not just when you need something.
That is community. That is trust. That is the good stuff.
What is one place, tradition, or group of people that feels like that for you?
The Marketing Bite
AI flyers are everywhere right now.
You’ve probably seen them. Big bold graphics, polished designs, dramatic headlines, sometimes a little too perfect, sometimes with a hand that has seven fingers if you look too long.
They’re popular because they’re fast, easy, and they look impressive at first glance.
But here’s what we’re seeing after some A/B testing:
AI-style flyers are not performing as well as good old-fashioned real photos.
Not with the algorithm. Not with the audience. Not when the goal is actual connection.
The posts using real pictures, real people, real places, and real moments are getting better response. And honestly, that tracks.
People want to see people.
They want to see your crew, your work, your shop, your customers, your behind-the-scenes mess, your finished project, your face, your real life.
A flyer can share information.
A photo builds trust.
That does not mean AI design is bad. It just means it should support your marketing, not replace the human part of it.
Use AI when it helps you move faster. Use flyers when you need to share clear information. But don’t forget, the internet is already full of polished noise.
Real still wins.
The Take-Home Bacon
Before you post your next graphic, stop and ask:
Would this perform better as a real photo?
This week, try posting one real picture instead of a flyer.
Your face.Your team.Your workspace.Your project.Your product.Your behind-the-scenes chaos.
Whatever is honest and relevant.
It does not have to be perfect. In fact, perfect is usually boring.
Real builds trust.
And trust brings home the bacon.
