Mark and Sherry lived in Oklahoma when Mark took a promotion with his job with relocation to Tennessee. So in 1999, we packed up and moved to Milan along with our 4 children who were 11, 9, 5, and 1.
We try to live our daily lives by the motto “Glorify God and Benefit Others”. We love to be involved in encouraging and helping children. Mark has volunteered with soccer teams when our 4 children were playing, whether it was for the YMCA, Upward, or at the middle school and high school levels. Sherry has volunteered at the schools by reading to classes, and listening to children read to her.
We are also involved in work at the church of Christ. Mark was deacon over a youth program called Lads to Leaders at church for several years. We were able to encourage many children to find, explore, and strengthen their God given talents. Sherry helped a group of these children put together puppet shows for the schools for Drug Awareness week and the Library’s Summer Reading program for several years. Sherry also worked at Milan Elementary school for several years as a substitute teacher, and later as an aid in the Child Development Center there.
In 2008, we had a midlife crisis and decided to purchase the Milan Ritz 3 Cinema. We are not sure what we were thinking, and we sure didn’t know what we were getting ourselves into. It isn’t as simple as pushing play on a dvd player and popping the “Best Popcorn in the World”, as some of our customers have stated.
When we purchased the theater, we wanted to find ways to use it to continue in that life long motto we have adopted. We have been partners with school systems, churches, and other groups to help benefit the community. A few examples of the way we use the theater is by encouraging children to read by movie rewards and popcorn parties, and helping Ladies Auxiliary with food baskets for Christmas. We look at the theater more as a way to give back to the community than as a means of income. We try to keep all our prices low enough that everyone can afford a night out with their family and friends. We enjoy meeting our customers, many of whom have become friends. We would love to meet you too.
